Mahama Taps Sam Jonah, Ishmael Yamson and Kwame Pianim to Steer Ghana’s Economic Reset

President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a powerful new Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE), naming renowned private sector leaders Sir Samuel Esson Jonah, Mr. Ishmael Yamson and veteran economist Mr. Kwame Pianim as key members of the high-level body tasked with steering Ghana’s economic recovery and long-term growth.

In a statement issued by the Presidency on Thursday, January 15, 2026, the government said the formation of PAGE underscores President Mahama’s resolve to draw on Ghana’s finest economic minds to restore macroeconomic stability, strengthen fiscal discipline and accelerate inclusive, job-rich growth under the administration’s 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme.

Sir Sam Jonah, one of Ghana’s most respected industrialists, Ishmael Yamson, a leading private sector voice , and Kwame Pianim, an influential economist and private sector advocate, are expected to play pivotal roles in shaping policy direction, investment strategies and reforms to boost competitiveness and productivity.

According to the Presidency, PAGE will serve as a high-level, independent and non-partisan advisory body to the President. Its mandate includes providing strategic guidance on macroeconomic management, debt sustainability and fiscal-monetary policy coordination; advising on industrial development and export-led growth; supporting private-sector expansion and investment mobilisation; and offering expert input into Ghana’s engagements with international financial institutions and development partners.

The group will also conduct periodic assessments of Ghana’s economic performance and recommend policy adjustments where necessary, while supporting the design and implementation of flagship initiatives such as the 24-Hour Economy and the Accelerated Export Development Programme.

President Mahama will chair the advisory group, with Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang also serving as a member. Other members include Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa, former Deputy Minister of Finance and Trade; Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana and Finance Minister; Mr. Ato Brown, a former World Bank infrastructure specialist; Dr. Henry Kofi Wampah, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana; Togbe Afede XIV; Ms. Abena Amoah, CEO of the Ghana Stock Exchange; Prof. Priscilla Twumasi Baffour; and Prof. Patience Asweh Abor.

The Presidency noted that the diverse composition of PAGE, spanning academia, finance, industry and public service, is intended to ensure rigorous, evidence-based advice to help navigate current economic challenges and position Ghana for sustained growth and resilience in the years ahead.
