Alternative Convos Podcast is not just a show, it is a space I intentionally created for honest conversations that often do not happen elsewhere. Across Africa, we are dealing with complex challenges, but many times, we do not slow down to truly listen to each other. This platform tries to change that.
For me, it sits at the meeting point of social change and social cohesion. I have come to realise that you cannot push for change if people feel excluded, unheard, or disconnected. In the same way, unity without honest dialogue is fragile. So the goal of Alternative Convos is to hold both, challenge systems while also bringing people together.
Rethinking How We Work in Africa
A big part of the conversations is about how we do development and social impact work. Over the years, I have seen many organisations struggle, not because they lack passion, but because the systems they depend on are not built for long-term sustainability.
This is why I often talk about the need for models that are “rooted, not borrowed.” In simple terms, we must stop copying solutions and start building from our own realities.
This shift is not easy. It requires us to:
- Question long-standing practices
- Rethink partnerships
- And be honest about power and dependency
But it is necessary if we want true independence and lasting impact.
Conversations that Go Deeper
What makes Alternative Convos different is that we do not just stay on the surface. We explore issues in a way that connects policy, practice, and personal experience.
We talk about:
- Education, not just as access, but as a system that must work for communities
- Funding, not just as money, but as power and control
- Technology, not just as innovation, but as inclusion or exclusion depending on how it is designed
One idea I keep returning to is “inclusion by design.” If we are not intentional, many people, especially those already marginalised will be left out of the future we are building.
A Space for Reflection, Not Just Solutions
Over time, I have come to value the reflective nature of these conversations. Not every discussion must end with a perfect solution. Sometimes, what we need is clarity, perspective, and a shift in how we see things.
Some of the most meaningful episodes have been those that touch on values, faith, purpose, service, and leadership. Because behind every organisation or system are people making choices. And those choices are shaped by what we believe.
Why It Matters
At its core, Alternative Convos is about amplifying voices that are often overlooked and creating room for new ways of thinking.
I believe strongly that Africa does not lack ideas, we have them. What we often lack is space to connect those ideas, test them honestly, and act on them together.
If we are serious about the future of the continent, then we must:
- Listen more deeply
- Engage more openly
- And build solutions that truly belong to us
That is the role Alternative Convos Podcast plays.
It is a quiet but intentional effort to shift thinking, strengthen connections, and contribute to a more grounded and self-aware Africa.
