The setting up of the Interim Electoral Commission in 1968 and its transition into an Institute in 1971 were great and progressive steps in our quest to enhance our Democratic Governance. Over time, the institute has transformed its processes to meet the increasing demands and new challenges. However, its mantra – transparency, fairness, and integrity – that speaks to the moral essence of the commission keeps coming under austere trial and questioning by stakeholders and the general public every electoral year as a result of its electoral management practices and external influences.

This institutional edition of the Development Report magazine explores the theme; The Electoral Commission, the Commissioner, and Electoral Management to ascertain the state of true independence by the commission and its preparedness in the era of cybersecurity and technology. Professor Ransford Edward Van Gyampo assesses the first and second electoral petitions and the future of electoral reforms in Ghana, while Dr. Albert Antwi Bosiako reviews the role of cybersecurity in elections and the preparedness of the electoral commission.
